Bar Stools
Complete your kitchen island or breakfast bar with bar stools from Heavenly Beds in Cheltenham, serving Gloucestershire with UK-wide delivery.
The right seating makes space for a morning coffee, a quick meal or conversation while dinner is being prepared. Explore fixed-height and adjustable designs, with backed and backless options that offer different looks and ways to use the space around your worktop.
Start with the height of your surface, then compare seat dimensions, footrests and the room available between stools. A swivel or adjustable mechanism may be useful, but its range needs to suit the specific setting. Our Cheltenham team can help you check measurements and available finishes, so your chosen stools complement the kitchen while leaving comfortable space to sit, turn and move around.

Choose the right stool height for your worktop
Bar stool height is where almost every purchase goes wrong, because kitchen surfaces come in two very different heights and the stools are not interchangeable.
Measure from the floor to the underside of your worktop, then leave about 25 to 30cm between that and the top of the seat. That gap is what your legs need.
As a rough guide, a standard kitchen worktop at around 90cm needs a stool seat around 60 to 65cm. A raised breakfast bar at around 105cm needs a taller stool, roughly 75 to 80cm.
For an adjustable stool, check the minimum and maximum seat height against your worktop measurements. An adjustment mechanism offers flexibility within its stated range, not a guaranteed fit for every surface.
With a back or without
Backless stools push fully under the counter and disappear, which in a small kitchen is the whole argument. Fine for a quick breakfast, tiring for a long sit.
With a back is far more comfortable and turns the island into somewhere people actually stay. They do not tuck away fully, so the kitchen always looks occupied.
Footrests are not optional
At bar height your feet do not reach the floor. Without a footrest your legs hang, which is uncomfortable within minutes. Every stool worth buying has one, and where a kitchen island has a built in rail that can do the job instead.
How many fit
Allow about 60cm of counter width per stool, the same as dining table spacing. Three stools crammed into a run meant for two is a daily irritation.
What height bar stool do I need?
Measure from the floor to the underside of the counter, including any support rails, then compare the stool's seat height and available legroom. Check the footrest and armrest positions too. Adjustable models only work within their stated height range, so an adjustable label does not guarantee a comfortable fit at every island.
Are adjustable stools stable?
Stability depends on the design, correct assembly and use on the surface specified by the manufacturer. Check the load limit, base footprint and adjustment instructions before choosing. Do not lean back on the stool or use it as a step. Contact Heavenly Beds if a stool develops unexpected movement or a faulty adjustment mechanism.
Can I choose a bar stool with a swivel seat?
Swivel seats are available on selected designs; check the specification rather than assuming that all adjustable stools rotate. Allow enough space for the seat, back and arms to turn without hitting the counter or another stool. Our Cheltenham team can help you compare fixed and rotating options for your kitchen layout.
How many will fit at my island?
Measure the usable length of the counter and compare it with each stool's full width, allowing comfortable space between seats. Include armrests, swivel movement and access at the ends. Check the room behind occupied stools as well, especially where the island borders a cooking area, doorway or main walking route.
